International Raftsmen Meeting

Dear rafters and timber floaters,

Welcome to Kuhmo!

International raftsmen meeting 2024 will be held in Kuhmo, Finland. Programme and registration form can be found www.kuhmo2024.fi. There is also information about hotels and other accommodation as well as pre- and post-tours.

On Wednesday 6thof March flights from Helsinki to Kajaani was opened to book. It is possible to fly to Kuopio or Oulu.

Train from Helsinki to Kajaani is one option. It takes about 6 hours and one-way ticket is from 17 to 34 € if the reservation is made well in advance.

Hotels in Kuhmo are already almost full booked. There are still hostels, guesthouses, Airbnb and cottages. If you have troubles to find suitable accommodation, we are happy to help you!

Venue will be town of Kuhmoand there Hotel Kalevalais centre of events.

1. Registration

You can register all participants of your association at same time. Fill out name of your association, country and names of participants. After participants name should be done X on the place “I order coupons for alcohol drinks”, is someone want to order beforehand.

Fee is 230 €. It includes programme, meals and transportation during the days. Airport transportation is paid separately.

We confirm your registration when your payment can be seen on our account. Add all participant fees and if someone wants to order alcohol drinks coupons beforehand those coupons set price too. Then you get total sum of Euros to transfer to our account.

If you know already also airport transportation need you can add those costs to the payment. Please, send us the flight details and also return flight details.

       2. Accommodation

Hotel Kalevala is almost fully booked, but we can help you to get accommodation nearby. Please, contact us and we help you find a comfortable place to stay!

       3. Airport transportation

We ask you to inform us the need of airport transportation. Even if it is an estimated it is valuable information to us. In February 2024 we will ask more detailed need of airport transportation.

Airport transportation is planned to be organized on Thursday 6.6.2024 and on Sunday 9.6.2024 so that there will be one bus leaving from airport or from Kuhmo to Airport.

Kajaani is the nearest airport. It is 115 km to Hotel Kalevala. It takes one and a half hour to drive. So bus is planned to start at 6 pm on Thursday 6th of June (18:00, 6.6.2024). If there will be more information about flights to Kajaani we can adjust the timetable.  Return from Kuhmo to Kajaani airport on Sunday 9thof June bus start at 8:30 am. Price one-way 50 €.

Kuopio is the second nearest airport. It is 193 km to Hotel Kalevala. It takes 2 and half hour to drive. So bus is planned to start at 5 pm on Thursday 6th of June (17:00, 6.6.2024). Return from Kuhmo to Kuopio airport on Sunday 9th of June bus start at 10:45 am. Price one-way 65 €.

Oulu is the third airport. It is 265 km to Hotel Kalevala. It takes 3 and half hour to drive. So bus is planned to start 4 pm on Thursday 6th of June (16:00, 6.6.2024). Return from Kuhmo to Oulu airport on Sunday 9th of June bus start at 10:10 am.  Price one-way 80 €.

If you arrive in earlier or leave Kuhmo later, we are delighted to help you to find reasonable airport transportation. In case you can and want to stay little bit longer in region the flights seem to be cheaper and timetable on Sunday will be not so tight if you stay for example until Monday.

       4. Pre and post tours

Hotel Kalevala will offer some pre and post tours for them who are willing to use some more time in the Kainuu Region. There will be Logger Camp for those who want to learn traditional skills of timber floaters like log rolling, running on the boom or woodworking skills. Those who want to see bears, wolfs and wolverines there is possibility to book a tour to the forest to see and make some photos. Those who are interested in history of war Eastern Finland offer lot of places to visit. Most are located on the eastern border. Timetabe and prices can be found on www.kuhmo2024.fi.

       5. Alcohol drinks

As many of you already know the policy of alcoholic beverages in Finland is not so liberal as it is most of Central European countries. Also the price of beer, wine or strong alcohol is quite high. We as an organizer offer for those who want to have alcohol drinks during meals possibility to beforehand order coupons to use them in restaurants where meals are served.  Seven coupons price is 55 €.
